Momocon 2 Soni was visiting with Jasmine this weekend so I really didn't know how to plan the convention and her visit. I had thought Momocon would be much later in the month but I was still prepared. originally scheduled to run the game room, I was happy to hear they had more than enough gaming systems and TVs, which was Mole's biggest worry. Called Hector that morning and he said the con was still getting started, and that the game room was fine. I really only was needed since I would provide a TV and parapara, but even then they really didn't need me to stay. Chris and I left for the con around around 2ish and lucked out finding a nice spot in the main parking area. already loads of cosplayers standing outside, the con was bustling. We made our way inside, grabbed a schedule and some flyers and scoped out the game area. the room was packed full and had every TV with various bemani games (and mario golf for some apparent reason). Said hi to Marcus, Mole, and Reuben then walked around some more. The dealer's room had almost tripled in size and they now had it in the area where the dance was last year - a Great improvement! the added booths seemed a bit out of place but still got a good bit of traffic. Bee bought another How To Draw Anime [Weapons] book and I got a picture of the Belle cosplayer. The same girl who did the two best costumes last year and in my opinion, best this year too. Ko was in the tournament area so we decided to go there. Bumped into Rob on the way who wasn't in costume but said hey real quickly. Saw amanda who was in costume as Lust with her group of cosplayers too. The Gaming Tournament area was located walking distance away in a separate area. At first it seemed out of the way but there were plenty of sidewalk chalk directions leading us toward it. There were 2 giant classroom auditoriums for the tournaments and unfortunately the games weren't projected onto screens. Halo 2 and another game were in one room, and in the room we went to, a 14inch TV screen with DreamCast emulated Nintendo games. they were doing speedrun challenges and "Who Could Get furthest in contra" challenges, which Scott, the guy running it changed the rules based on what people wanted to do. Lank got furthest on Contra, and while I thought I had it down pat, I got the least furthest; its hard on a DC controller! We then played Mario 1 where we really didn't know how to set the rules since we could either go by time, distance, warps, no warps, whatever. We stayed for maybe two rounds then got bored and left. Got lost in atlanta traffic and then went home to party. Thats it! |
