| just getting back from DC here on sat afternoon so ill sum up a review. About 7pm Friday Elly and I were going to takeoff to DC via MARTA, but I needed to get nikki so I just told Elly to go on without me. word was that nothing at the con had really started happening anyway. Got to nikkis and had a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch, cleaned my car and did her laundry and we were off. Marta is scary sometimes. Around the Lindbergh station everyone but maybe 3 of us got off at that stop, the train took off with us in it, and not even 2 mins later the train stopped. the lights went off and nothing came on the intercom. we called for service and a guy came out saying we had entered a Restricted Area and would need to catch a separate train to head to Peachtree station. one guy with us was SO pissed just cussing left and right and even punching a window! but we made it safe and arrived at the hotel. Soni, Chris, Britney were all chilling in the room (253 Itnl Tower) around now getting their "second wind" as they had already drank, passed out, and woke up. nikki and I had to catch up. and MAN did Ling/The Rev have an awesome stash of liquor! everything except Jager with mixers limes lemons.. pretty much everything was there. A slippery/buttery nipple, two shots of Soco a shot of Goldschlauger, and Apple Vodka and I was all set. we didn't really leave the Hyatt hotel since everything at the other one was already closed. in the lobby we caught up with Hex, Lisa, and Val who were just leaving to club Azul for some event. Went up to Fershad's party 2035 which was pretty popular but with a bunch of stragglers from the con. and the keg of alcohol was extremely watered down. the music was pretty weak too. but this was just the Coverup party to mask what would eventually be the good party. Went down and met Adella/Sarah and a few more people. -FLASH- originally we meant to go eat at WaHo with her but she already ate there already -FLASH- we also had told Emuko light years ago we'd meet her at the bar. Uh.... so yeah we then met up with Duncan and saw other people. Derek and Alisa dropped by to say hey and Tim Flannigan too. Around the time Emuko and Ashley showed, I went to scout and check for parties and saw Elly with Glitch and Ben. The party was still kinda dank so we all figured why not just get Ling to make drinks and drink the night away. It was great; he made us several shots and some really tasty strong punch stuff. I think we went around a little longer before I finally passed out on the chair. I woke up the next morning to find out I missed a HELLUVA lot. I even slept through Soni writing something along the lines of "We need to talk. -Mom" on my forehead in silvery pen ink. We missed the chance for breakfast at McDonald's but it wasn't too late for lunch. and Damn was I hungry. we all were I think. nothing but alcohol for 2 days must have dehydrated us all. The line wasn't too long, compared to last year's out the door lines. Since everyone else planned to take showers when we got back to the room, I borrowed Chris's badge and went around with Britney & Soni. The dealer's room was same as always. nothing new but a few exciting exhibits. Like feather headdresses and big metallic figurines of horror movie aliens and bad guys. We completely lost Soni while scavenging the bootleg DVDs, so B and I headed down to the Guests Autogrpah/ Dealer's Room Part 2. this place was better in my opinion since most things here were more "crafted" and less industry. not to mention they had about SIX different places to get bootleg DVDs. The guests were all in the back. When I saw that the line to meet the Firefly cast started outside the dealers room, I went to talk to other guests. First I got to meet THE BLACK GUY from ghostbusters I and II. he was kinda funny and surprisingly he had been in more movies that I had seen and not known it was him. He mentioned right now he's going to be starring in Miss Congeniality 2 which comes out this fall. When I asked for an autograph and picture though he said itll cost $20. "Ok?" I figured so I just picked a ghostbusters II lithograph and had him sign it. Apparently that is how things work at D*C. nevermind that the badges themselves cost $80, itll cost another $20 to get autograph and photo with the guests. ugh. So next in the dark corner of the room was David Carrigan. no line in sight I went up and shook his hand. it was funny how he did this because he stiffened his hand as if to do the "One Inch Punch" as seen in Kill Bill Vol 2, then he shook my hand. I asked if I could just get a picture with my personal camera but he didn't say anything,. his "Assistant" (who referred to David as THE BOSS) told me I cant take any pictures unless I pay $20 for a picture. I told him it was my own camera and didn't need the autographed lithogram. but he wouldn't let me. David just kinda glared at me coldly. not sure if they were just going by regulation or what but it seemed pretty rude to me. Had I gone to David instead of Winston first I might have paid for it, yes but still. The moral? Shoot first, ask questions later. How would they UNtake a picture, ya know? I was bound determined to do 2 things at this con. 1- Meet "Firefly"s Jewel Staite and 2- Find a bootleg of the Raggedy Ann & Andy movie. for #2, I asked every dealer's table that sold DVDs and only one had a clue what I meant. they said to ask the bald guy in Aisle A for it and they should have it. I was around aisle F at this time. On the way I saw a booth selling nearly every single MST2k movie/episode/special. the guy was cool and we talked for a bit. he didn't have the academy awards show though, but he was selling nifty $15 shirts. When I finally found Aisle A I asked the guy and yeah they had the DVD. the same ones that go on Ebay for around $5 but end up charging you more for shipping. The quality was as good as a VHS original so I got it. This was the last of my money though... so how would I accomplish my #1 goal for the con!? The line for Firefly was indeed -completely- outside of the hotel and they were taking people in groups of 15. I happed to catch a group just as they were heading in. I jumped in on the tail of the group but when we finally made it to where the Firefly cast was, they asked me who I was. I told them yea, I just left with the rest of the group like everyone else when the leader said "head in". they asked "Are you the guy who went to the bathroom?" Uhhhhhhh Sure, that's me alright. and yea I feel bad for whoever the kid was who really did go to the bathroom but heh, it got me a spot in the line! Thankfully I was blessed to see Mark there. Mark was in Cramer's room at last year's D*C and he remembered me. I begged him for $20 saying I knew Cramer's room (308) and would pay him back right after this event once I got to an ATM. thanks SO SO much Mark for loaning me the money. Well my turn was up to meet the Firefly people. Jewel had seen me twice so far with a curious look so I opened up with a handshake (a long one of that) and in the handshake I fully explained that yes I had come to this con just to meet her, had been a fan of hers since her early Space Cases days on Nickelodeon and even earlier years in Disney's Flash Forward. I also mentioned how (and yes this is true) she used to be on AOL a lot and we used to talk with each other. she actually remembered my name and it was funny because I told her I never dreamed id ever meet her being that she's in Canada. It was so great. I got a picture and an autograph and while I just dropped the $20 on the table, I dont think she would have charged me for it since we went back so far before her Firefly days. she was real sweet and I wished her good luck with everything. Mission accomplished I was ready to head home but something stopped me. I went up to the room but once I got there I was so tired that I slept for about 3 hours. I still had some McNuggets left over from earlier so I snacked on them, Everyone came back to the room to resume drinking but I needed to head back. Chris showed me a few dance steps before I left for some reason. He was also cool enough that when I get back on sunday he'll let me have his badge since he would be leaving that afternoon. Oh and I saw Peter & Gabby on my way out. they said Hurricane Frances was getting much to close to take chances and Gabby has family in GA anyway so they would be here again this year. Well again for Gabby, first D*C for Peter. Saturday Night (or lack therof)Got blitzed off "Hot & Cold" as Soni called it. Saw Voltaire & Cruxshadows. Puked my brains up. Good times had by all!
