This convention is set in the near future, when anime has become mainstream and cosplay is no longer an event to look forward to. The social fabric of the con has become unraveled, with fanboys committing despicable acts destruction and violence. Room parties are now raided at every turn with no chance of get togethers to look forward to without getting busted. As a result of this anarchy, the convention passes the Millennial Reform School Act (known as the BR Act in short). Under the provisions of the BR Act, a yearly Battle Royale is held in which a randomly chosen group of otakus are issued weapons and forced to play a twisted game of survival in which there can be only one winner. At the start of "Battle Royale", the Anime/Videogame Otaku group known as Fujikoma has been chosen to play this year's game. Unfortunately, none of the happy-go-lucky otakus are aware of their fate. While on what they think is just another con, the entire group is rendered unconscious and brought to the 111-square foot Atlanta convention center where they will do battle over the next three days. Each otaku is issued a backpack, containing some food, bottled water, a compass, a map of the convention center and hotel, and a weapon. While some otakus are issued squirt guns and knives, others are not so fortunate. Another standard issue for every player is an permanently-affixed explosive-laced necklace which can be detonated in one of three ways: remote detonation for those who 'get out of line', detonation by wandering into one of the con's many rotating 'danger zones', and detonation of all necklaces if more than one player remains after the 3 days. Armed to the teeth and scared out of their wits, the players begin the Battle Royale, approaching the game in different ways. Some approach the game with enthusiasm, determined to come out on top at any cost, while others gleefully see the game as a means to settle old scores. Others are unwilling to kill their friends and loved ones, and end up committing suicide instead. Some students form alliances to sue for peace and an end to the game. As the game progresses and the body count rises, daily notes are used to give a running tally of the latest victims and the number of remaining players. |
