AWA2- went with my long time friend EvilMajik, got to taste
the con experience. didnt meet all that many new people and only
attended a few panels (main ones) but i got an early experience
at the anime con scene. i didnt even have an email address at the
time so keeping contact with others was kinda rough
AWA4- Chris and Keebler were really the only members who
could afford this con, everyone else was broke and since i knew
so much about cons, they were really glad i had saved up to go to
this one. since i had a general idea of how the con works i was
all-prepared for the con event and this began my early mingling
at cons thing. i got to meet quite a number of new faces (Carolina)
and was able to prepare for cosplay the next year.
AWA5- this was looked forward to all year. Everyone was
all set to attend this and we had been talking about it all year.
Shin by far was the most exited about this because he was just getting
into the big anime groups and was really exited about meeting up
with a lot of the online people. the coverage of this con was amazing.
so amazing we dedicated a separate website on parodyce.com just
to host pictures, reviews, and other things just about this single
convention
after awa, the group just rocked the world. we got known and people
were asking basically who we were. so that was when we established
an official "Group". but its not a cosplay group, as only a few
of us actually cosplay. its a group of friends who have simular
interests in video games and anime. we share rooms at conventions
with other members who need them and hangout on regular basis. Not
to mention keeping close contact on the internet.
A-kon 11 was the most out of the blue convention for me.
After grduating from Tech school in the military i had a week to
"move" to montgomery alabama. my friends from AWA5, WackoTTL & Gabby
just happened to be stationed there. as luck may have it he was
heading toward Akon the same day i graduated so the trip worked
out perfectly. i had gotten to go straight from Tech school to a
convention in Texas of all places. This con was BIG, featuring a
large amount of guests, both japanese and american as well as a
large hotel and amazing dealers room. This was the first con i worked
at as well. By volunteering (or asking to work?) to be on the Consuite
staff i recieved a 3-day pass, room to sleep, staff t-shirt, and
an unending supply of food (so long as i made it). after the con
i made a site soley for akon; FujiAkon. since this was getting a
little crowded; having multiple pages for conventions, Shin and
i decided to create a large group of sections and one giant page
for everything; Fujikon. It would feature not only con pics, but
reviews, things bought, and other extras most sites dont include.
DragonCon 2k came up next. only reason attending would be
to meet final fantasy illustrator Amano Yoshitaka and Apollo Smile.
being in Atlanta it was only a 3 hour drive so it wasnt a big hassle
in getting there either. WuHeiLong and i were on a tight budget
so we were either going to leech a room from someone or just sleep
in the truck. turned out membership alone was a hefty price so we
had to settle for sleeping in the Anime video room.
AFO was the con we got to make officially; OUR con. this
time we were free of parental burdens/limitations as we got a room
of our own and got to stay in regular contact throught the entire
convention. Waffle, my roomate in the dorms went with me on this
one. he really likes videogames and i had been telling him about
anime cons for awhile. he really enjoyed himself dispite this being
a really small con.
Then the big one; AWA6. this meant our takeover! we got
a big big room this time at the end of a floor and we all shared
it. Loki managed to bring 2 friends Baka and Matt of his so we had
an even larger group. guest of honor; Shawn the touched, maker of
our favorite parody 4f needed Crash space so we let him share our
room. it was good
SugoiCon came out of nowhere really. once again WuHeiLong
and i were short on cash so to split the cost we picked up Dogbert
on the way to Kentucky/Ohio. the first year con was nicely run and
had a really cozy feel to it. Thanks to Jenny & Zyvernia we were
able to get some crash space. This marked my first awards. One for
3rd place in the DDR tournament and another for Honorable Mention
in the costume awards. I got to meet MoviesOfMyDreams productions
here. they explained to me their project which i showed a good amount
of interest in since ive always been into the TV Production field.
Ohayocon was just nicely planned. I was visiting my dad
at the time and he was only a few minutes drive from the place so
it worked out well. C-chan was here and since Johns room was pretty
crowded (or at least it seemed crowded) we split a room between
TinNyank0, Ashita, Dan, and myself. Again, for a first year con
things went off really well. the con was run really professionally
and the hotel was very nice. Out of sheer chance pro-wrestling stars
were staying at the hotel the same time so that was interesting.
About this time fujikon version 2 was made. the layout was even
easier to navigate. using the same WipeOut3 menu and colour scheme,
this layout proved to be really fast loading and easy to find sections.
Katsucon was a really fun trip. Jenny was generous enough
to offer me a ride and room at this con and the van trip there was
only half the fun! I had gotten to meet so many online friends at
this con, as well as host a room party with Maryssa.
Anime Express 4 once again proved to be the one of the smallest
con ever. though in its 4th year the con had a dealer's room the
size of a broom closet. This didn't stop Bee! and Shin from getting
full coverage, Bee! winning multiple games, and both of them entering
the cosplay.
Jacon just happened to fall on a lucky weekend Mappy was
visiting Orlando. Gene, Cybil, Terra, and others got to meet up.
Not so much of a convention report on this one, more outside DDR
and fun at Gene's house.
Animazement went really well. Bee! Loki, and DCBoy got to
make the trip up. Mappy came with Something Cute Cosplay and we
all got to attend MeatCon II!
A-kon 12 ... Joey's solo journey off into the Big Con in
Texas. A few pics here and there and some fanart!
Anime Expo...the branch to the west. Again big thanks to
Jennifer for helping me get over to Cali. Got to play all of the
new arcade games, see some amazing Japanese guests, and meet simular
otaku groups on the west coast. It was a huge convention lasting
4 days total.
AWA7 the return to the con that started it all. Every single
person got to make it. Despise a few flaws the con had, everyone
enjoyed meeting up, watching Battle Royale, playing games and hanging
out.
Following this convention Fujikoma met with a ton of discrepancies/attacks
from loyal AWA followers. Mostly flames on the message boards, sometimes
even threats. In the end (does it ever end?) we strongly stood our
ground in stating that we are free to voice our opinion on what
we honestly thought of the con.
MTAC 2½ / PhreakNIC 5 was a trip made by Mappy and
Dogbert. Thanks to Kagami for transportation and room help. As a
fun coincidence a hacker convention was less than a mile from an
anime convention. We got coverage of both!
